God provides wealth even in the toughest times, says Dr. Pierre Bennett, the Founder and Pastor of God’s Luv International Ministries Church.
In a recent sermon, Dr. Pierre Bennett began by telling his congregation that even when David was outside of the will of God, even when he had messed up–and most especially then–he was still walking in his kingly anointing. According to Dr. Pierre Bennett, David’s main concern at this time was for his people and not for the consequences he himself would face.
Parents can relate to this story, points out Dr. Pierre Bennett. Even when they’ve messed up, even when they’ve made a mistake, parents want to make sure that their kids are fed and have a place to lay their heads. Dr. Pierre Bennett adds that husbands can also relate. Men, being human, make mistakes and mess up but they want to make sure that their wives are taken care of. Wives, said Dr. Pierre Bennett likewise. The point is, says Dr. Pierre Bennett, when you have someone to take care of, your first concern is for his or her well -being, even above your own.
Much like David, adds Dr. Pierre Bennett, we pray that when we stray from God’s path, He will remain kind to our loved ones. David asked that God would not punish his people – they didn’t do anything. We also repent, and hope that God will not punish those we love because of our actions.
Dr. Pierre Bennett points to the book of Samuel, “And God came that day to David and said to him, ‘Go up, erect an altar to the Lord on the threshing floor of Araunah the Jebusite.”
God told David to erect an altar on the threshing floor, says Dr. Pierre Bennett. The threshing floor was the place where the Israelites separated the wheat from the chaff—but it was more than that. In fact, Dr. Pierre Bennett points out, it was much deeper than that. They erected an altar in the place, the workplace, where the provisions were provided, Dr. Pierre Bennett explains.
The angel of the Lord told David to go erect an altar on the threshing floor and he did, expresses Dr. Pierre Bennett. But Dr. Pierre Bennett points out that many of us would have gotten stuck right there. For instance, we question God by saying, “I know that you told me to organize a Bible study at lunchtime, but they don’t really do that where I work,” or “I know you said to speak to somebody at my job today, but I don’t know her well enough to speak to her like that,” relates Dr. Pierre Bennett.
Dr. Pierre Bennett refers back to Samuel, “So David, according to the word of God, went up as the Lord commanded. Now Araunah looked and saw the king and his servants coming toward him. So Araunah went out and bowed before the king with his face to the ground. Then Araunah said, “Why has my lord the king come to his servant?” And David said, “To buy the threshing floor from you, to build an altar to the Lord, that the plague may be withdrawn from the people.”
Dr. Pierre Bennett asks his congregation, Why did David buy the threshing floor? That’s what it says, right? Why didn’t he just go in there and worship God? He was demonstrating his faith by following the exact instructions of God.
Dr. Pierre Bennett continues reading 2 Corinthians 8:1-2: “Moreover, brethren, we make known to you the grace of God bestowed on the churches of Macedonia: that in a great trial of affliction the abundance of their joy and their deep poverty abounded in the riches of their liberality.”
Highlighting the words, “that in a great trial of affliction the abundance of their joy and their deep poverty abounded in riches,” Dr. Pierre Bennett explains that if we walk with God, there are going to be seasons where it seems like there is a drought. It is in this drought, concludes Dr. Pierre Bennett, where you need to make the biggest sacrifice, because that’s when you will get the riches, the abundance of riches by your freedom.
